CHENNAI: Amid protests, mixed reviews and entangle in controversies, Vijay’s “Sarkar” is leading in the box office collection.
AR Murugadoss directorial film ‘Sarkar’ is a political drama and it is also the most significant film down south in quite a while. As of now, it released over 3400 screens across the world.
Sarkar has captured the imagination of the viewers and all the promotional material gained considerable attention by the time it released.
On the third day of its release, Sarkar has raked in about Rs 6 crore in Chennai alone, as per the report it will increase in the coming weekend.
According to trade analysts, in the first two days, the film touched the Rs 100-crore mark and has surpassed the record of Baahubali 2 in Tamil Nadu and in coming days it will beat several other records.
Trade analysts also predicted that the problems surrounding the film will help to increase its publicity and it might do better in the coming days.
AR Murugadoss directed film ‘Sarkar’ is currently facing a backlash from the ruling AIADMK over the depiction of its welfare schemes and its leader.
They claim that the film is depicting their party and the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in a bad light.
They are demanding deletion of the contentious scenes. Some senior AIADMK ministers threatened to initiate legal action if the filmmakers did not agree to their demands.
According to the report from the ‘Sarkar’ crew, a compromise has been reached. A theatre owners' group has announced that an edited version would be screened from today.
Superstar Rajinikanth today criticised the ruling AIADMK and questioned the rationale behind attacking a film that has been cleared by the censor board.
"It is against the law to hold protests asking removal of some scenes from a censor board certified film and trying to hamper the screening and damaging the banners, I strongly condemn these" Rajinikanth tweeted.
However, the critics have come down hard on the film, but it hasn't affected the collection of the film.
The film 'Sarkar', produced by Sun Pictures, released on November 6, starring Vijay and Keerthi Suresh in lead roles and has music by Oscar winner AR Rahman.
The political thriller also has Varalaxmi, Pala Karuppiah and Radha Ravi in the lead roles.
