MUMBAI: Vivek Oberoi-starrer biographical drama on Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received 'Universal' certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
"We are very happy that we got the 'U' certificate from the Censor Board, and finally the film will be releasing on April 11”, producer Sandeep Singh said in a statement.
"I hope no political parties across India has any problem, because the Election Commission, the CBFC, and all the courts have cleared all the pleas. We are grateful to each and everyone who have prayed for us," he added.
The film has been criticised by the opposition parties and claimed that the biopic could give undue advantage to the BJP in the polls as it will arrive in theatres before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday had dismissed a petition filed by a Congress activist seeking a stay on the film's release.
Recently, the film ‘PM Narendra Modi’ came under the ECI scanner after Congress and left parties complained to the poll body, saying that it violates the Model Code of Conduct.
However, the Bombay High Court on April 1st disposed-off the PIL.
Earlier, Actor Vivek Oberoi, who is playing the lead role in the upcoming biopic ‘PM Narendra Modi’ had said, the Congress party is afraid of “chowkidar ka danda” (Security guard’s wooden stick).
“I don't understand why some people are overreacting like this. Why are such senior and famous lawyers like Abhishek Singhvi ji and Kapil Sibal ji wasting time on filing a PIL on such a modest film? Don't know if they are scared of the film or of Chowkidar's 'danda'”, news agency ANI had tweeted Vivek Oberoi as saying.
“We are not projecting Modi ji as larger than life, he already is larger than life. We are not projecting him as a hero, he already is a hero, not only for me but for crores of people in India and abroad. Its an inspirational story which we brought to the screen”, he added.
The actor had asserted, the movie is not funded by any political party and is not part of any propaganda.
“This film is an inspirational story, it’s not funded by anyone, proper documentation has been submitted. The allegation can be made on anyone”, he had said.
Ever since BJP kick-started its ‘main bhi chowkidar’ campaign ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, ‘chowkidar has become a part of political discussions.
Directed by Omung Kumar, the biopic will traverse the journey of Modi from his beginnings to his years as chief minister onto his landmark win at the 2014 general election and being nominated as prime minister.
Boman Irani, Manoj Joshi, Prashant Narayanan, Zarina Wahab, Barkha Sengupta, Anjan Shrivastav, Yatin Karyekar, Ramakant Dayma, Akshat R Saluja, Jimesh Patel and Darshan Kumaar are part of the cast.
