8 killed, 25 injured in Lahore suicide bombing


LAHORE: At least eight people, including five police personnel, were killed and 25 others were injured in the suicide bombing outside the Data Darbar shrine here.

The attack took place at around 8.45 on Wednesday morning.

As per the report, the target was a vehicle of the elite force, which was stationed outside the gate of the shrine of Sufi saint Ali Hajvari commonly known as Data Darbar.

“The suicide bomber came closer to the police personnel vehicle and blew himself up, killing five of them and injuring other four critically”, Punjab Inspector General Police Arif Nawaz told reporters.

“One security guard and two citizens are among the dead”, he added.

Authorities believe that the suspected attacker's body is amongst those brought to Mayo Hospital in the aftermath of the bombing.

President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan condemned the attack.

The premier has directed authorities concerned to provide best possible medical treatment to those injured in the blast.

In 2010, the shrine was targeted in a suicide attack that killed more than 40 people.
