RAE BARELI: At least seven persons were killed and several injured as five coaches and the engine of the New Farakka Express (14003) derailed in Harchandpur near Rae Bareli on Wednesday morning.
Satish Kumar, the Northern Railway Divisional rail manager, said, that the accident took place around 6.05 am and that the cause of the accident was not known immediately.
Officials told PTI that a team of doctors in an Accident Relief Medical Van has been rushed to the spot in Lucknow and emergency helpline numbers have been set up at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya junction.
Chairman of the Railway Board, Ashwani Lohani, is on his way to the accident site to assess the situation, according to sources. Authorities have suspected that the number of casualties may increase.
Assessing the situation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district magistrate, the superintendent of police, health authorities and the national disaster rescue force to provide all kinds of assistance for the relief and rescue operations, an official spokesman said.
The chief minister has expressed his condolences for the deceased and directed the DGP to take all possible action into the matter.
