NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Thursday granted anticipatory bail to former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti in Aircel Maxis cases filed by the CBI and the Enforcement Directorate.
Special Judge O P Saini granted relief to Chidambaram and directed them to join the probe in the cases.
"In event of arrest, they are released on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and one surety of like amount. The accused are directed to join the investigation,” the court said.
Chidambaram is already in CBI custody in connection with INX media cases in which he got no relief.
The CBI had registered an FIR alleging irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPM) clearance given to INX media to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when Chidambaram was the finance minister.
Based on the FIR, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had filed a Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case against him.
His son Karti Chidambaram, already has bail in the INX media case which was granted to him by the Delhi Court last year. He was arrested by the CBI on February 28, 2018.
However, P Chidambaram has strongly denied the allegations, saying the payments were for consultancy and his son was in no way associated with that company.
