Encounter breaks out in Kashmir's Sopore; Security forces kill one terrorist


SRINAGAR: A terrorist has been killed in an overnight gunfight with security forces in Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district.

The encounter took place on Tuesday evening in Bomai area of Sopore in Baramulla district. However, the body of a terrorist was recovered by security forces on Wednesday morning.

"In the ensuing gunfight, an unidentified terrorist was killed. The body has been recovered while his identity and group affiliation is being ascertained," Jammu and Kashmir Police said.

The exchange of fire began during a search operation launched by security forces after they received information that terrorists were present there.

"On a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and security forces at the area. During the search operation, the hiding terrorist fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter," police said.

As per the report, the encounter broke out at 5:25 pm between the terrorists and the troops of 177, 179 and 92 Battalion of CRPF, SOG Sopore, 22 Rashtriya Rifles (RR).

Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.

The police have requested people to cooperate with police and not to venture inside the encounter zone till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any.
