SRINAGAR: A 40-year-old man was allegedly shot dead by suspected terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The deceased has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Lone.
"Manzoor Ahmad Lone was forcibly taken away from his home in Dogripora and shot dead by the terrorists late on Thursday night at Gulzarpora in Awantipora area of Pulwama", a police spokesman said on Friday.
This was the third attack on civilians in south Kashmir in the past two days.
On Thursday, a National Conference worker was shot at and injured in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district.
On Wednesday, a 25-year-old Showkat Ahmad Naikoo was allegedly shot dead outside his home in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Pulwama has been in the news after the terror attack on a CRPF convoy on February 14.
On February 14, an explosives-laden truck rammed into a CRPF convoy in Pulwama outside Srinagar, killing more than 40 soldiers in one of the biggest terror attacks in recent years.
The convoy comprised 78 buses in which around 2500 personnel were travelling from Jammu to Srinagar.
Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was caused by a suicide bomber.
On February 26, Indian Air Force (IAF) had attacked terror camps in Balakot area in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The air strikes come 12 days after the dreaded terror outfit-Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) carried out a debilitating attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama on February 14.
A day later, Pakistan fighter jets violated Indian airspace and the aerial fight ensued.
Subsequently, Pakistan lost one F-16 fighter jet while India lost MiG-21 fighter jet, IAF pilot Abhinandan Varthaman was arrested by Pakistan. However, on March 1
he was released.
