JAMMU: One person was killed and 32 others were injured in a grenade attack at State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) bus stand area in the heart of the city.
As per the report, the grenade attack was carried out by a Hizbul Mujahideen operative, who was arrested hours after the incident.
According to the report from the officials, the grenade went off under a bus. A parked bus of the SRTC suffered extensive damage in the blast.
“The incident of grenade blast was reported at 11.58 am. The police immediately rushed to the site, 33 people were injured in the explosion and they were rushed to the hospital immediately, even though one of them succumbed to the injuries later ”, Inspector General of Police, Jammu, MK Sinha, said.
The deceased person identified as 17-year-old Mohd Sharik of Toda area of Haridwar in Uttarakhand.
“One suspect named Yasir Bhatt, from Kulgam area of Kashmir, has been arrested for lobbing the grenade. He was arrested based on CCTV footage and oral testimony of witnesses”, Sinha added.
This was the third grenade attack by terrorists in Jammu bus stand since May last year, viewed by security agencies as an attempt to disturb communal harmony and peace in the city.
