Pak firing along LoC in J-K’s Rajouri district, one villager injured


JAMMU: A villager was injured in Pakistani firing along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Monday.


According to the official report, the injured has been identified as R Saroop and he has been hospitalised.

Earlier, the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had said the Indian Army reported 1,248 cases of ceasefire violations (CFVs) and four casualties along the LoC this year.

In a written response to a question in Rajya Sabha, the Defence Minister added that January saw 203 cases of CFVs, followed by 215 in February.

As per the report, there were 267 cases of CFVs in March and in April and May 234 and 221 cases of CFVs were reported respectively. In June 108 cases of CFVs were reported.

The border witnessed a skirmish after India's air strike on a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terror camp in Pakistan's Balakot on February 26 in response to the February 14 Pulwama attack.

On February 14, an explosives-laden truck rammed into a CRPF convoy in Pulwama outside Srinagar, killing more than 40 soldiers in one of the biggest terror attacks in recent years.

There has been a spurt in ceasefire violation by Pakistan after India's air strike at Jaish-e-Mohammad terror camp in Balakot on February 26.

On February 26, the Indian Air Force carried out a counter-terror operation and attacked terror camps in Balakot area in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

In response, on February 27, Pakistani F-16 jets violated the Line of Control and the aerial fight ensued.

Subsequently, Indian fighter jet shot down Pakistan’s F-16 fighter jet, which landed in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Air Force retaliated and downed a MiG-21 and captured an Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. However, he was released on March 1st after spending nearly 60 hours in Pakistani custody.

Pakistani troops fired mortar shells and small arms across the Line of Control at several areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

It includes Nowshera, Mendhar and Krishna Ghati sectors in Rajouri district, Gawahalan, Chokas, Kiker and Kathi posts in the Uri sector and Poonch Balakote.
