AMETHI: Union Minister Smriti Irani on Saturday inaugurated projects worth Rs 18 crore in her Lok Sabha constituency of Amethi.
She inaugurated several developmental projects including wellness centres and fire stations at an event in Amethi.
"It has not even two months that we have come to power. We have already inaugurated projects worth Rs 18 crore", she said at a public meeting held here.
"I requested the administration to make the people aware of the facilities in the wellness centres", she added.
Amethi in Uttar Pradesh was a prestige battle in the recent Lok Sabha elections. BJP’s Smriti Irani won the seat with a heavy margin by defeating former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, who held the seat for the past 15 years.
Smriti Irani managed to rake in 4,68,514, meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi could only pick up 4,13,394 votes.
Amethi is considered as a stronghold of the Congress party since years. Rahul Gandhi had consistently won the Amethi seat since 2004.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi defeated Smriti Irani by over 1 lakh votes.
