1,328 police personnel test positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra; death toll at 12


At least 1,328 personnel from the Maharashtra Police have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, according to the department on Tuesday.


Out of the total cases, 136 are police officers while 1192 are other police personnel.

According to a release by the Maharashtra Police, as many as 12 policemen have died of coronavirus in the state as of today. As many as 324 police personnel have been cured.

With 4,970 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally reached 1,01,139 on Tuesday. 

Meanwhile, with an increase of 134 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen to 3,163.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is  58,802 . Meanwhile 39,173 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Among the Indian states, Maharashtra remains to be the worst affected with 35,058 positive COVID-19 cases, including 1,249 deaths. It is followed by Tamil Nadu (11,760) and Gujarat (11,745).
