1,666 police personnel test positive for COVID-19 in Maharashtra; death toll at 16

At least 1,666 personnel from the Maharashtra Police have tested positive for COVID-19 so far, according to the department on Friday.

 

According to a release by the Maharashtra Police, as many as 16 policemen have died of coronavirus in the state as of today. 

As per the report, there are 1,177  active cases and as many as 473 police personnel have been cured.

Maharashtra Police, in its COVID-19 related action report, informed that as many as 86 police personnel were injured while on duty during COVID-19 related activities, and 823 accused have been arrested in cases of assault on police personnel during the lockdown period.

Among the Indian states, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state due to COVID-19. According to the Union Ministry of Health and

Family Welfare, the state has reported 41,642 confirmed COVID-19 cases so far, which include 11,726 cured or discharged and 1,454 deaths.

Meanwhile, with 6,088 new cases in the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases in a single day, India's COVID-19 tally reached 1,06,750 on Friday.

With an increase of 148 deaths, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen to 3,583.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 66,330. Meanwhile 48,533 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.
