10 workers killed, 4 hurt as crane collapses at Visakhapatnam shipyard; toll likely to rise

In a major mishap at least 10 persons were killed and four others injured when a heavy crane crashed at Hindustan Shipyard at Visakhapatnam on Saturday afternoon.

The exact number of deaths is not available and rescue operations are underway, reported The New Indian Express quoting Malkapuram Circle Inspector Kuna Durga Prasad.

According to police, the crane collapsed when the cable reportedly got snapped during loading operations at the shipyard. The death toll may rise as it is yet to be known as how many workers have been trapped under the crane.

Reports say that a bigger tragedy was averted the number of casualties since the workers had gone for lunch break.  

Police and workers present at the shipyard conducted the rescue operations and rushed the injured to hospital.
