16 coronavirus cases in Andhra Pradesh, state tally jumps to 180

Another 16 Covid-19 positive cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh overnight, taking the total number of infected in the state to 180.


According to the Medical and Health Department latest bulletin, four fresh cases were reported each in Kadapa and Krishna districts, three each in Guntur and Kurnool and one each in Chittoor and Prakasam districts.

All these cases relate to the Tablighi Jamaat, though officially the government stopped mentioning about it.

Of the 180 cases reported since March 12 in the state, the first four patients had since recovered and been discharged from hospital.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic. 

According to Johns Hopkins University, confirmed COVID-19 cases now exceed 1,000,000 globally, with the death toll hitting over 58,000.
