586 booked for drunk driving in single day in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Tightening the noose on Drunk drivers, Hyderabad traffic police conducted special drive on the intervening night of 29-30 November and pinned down 586 persons.

The initiative was aimed at preventing accidents due to personal negligence or due to drunken driving.
According to the report from the officials, they had booked them for driving under the influence of liquor under the amended Motor Vehicle Act.
They deployed 50 teams, who checked approximately 5,998 drivers and found 586 of them under the influence of alcohol.
The special drive started around 9 pm on Friday and went on till 1 am on Saturday.  Police teams were deployed at 50 different spots of the city. 
Those checked included drivers of two-wheelers, cars, and heavy vehicles like lorries, water tankers, buses, JCBs and DCM vans.
Among the 586 drivers booked were 394 two-wheelers, 38 three-wheelers, 148 cars and six other vehicles.
All SIs, Inspectors, ACPs, Addl. DCPs of Traffic branch was part of the 50 teams under the leadership of L.S. Chowhan, DCP Traffic-I, Hyderabad, and K. Babu Rao, DCP Traffic-II, Hyderabad.
Apart from traffic personnel, six platoons consisting of 120 ranks of city armed reserve police also participated in this drive. Each team conducted enforcement against drunk driving, including lorries, water tankers, buses, JCBs and DCM vans.
As per the report, Hyderabad Traffic Police has booked 25,915 cases against drunk drivers this year. Of them, 4,260 were imprisoned and 21,655 fined the metropolitan courts in Nampally, in 2019 so far.
