60 more arrested over Bengaluru violence

Sixty more people have been arrested in connection with violence in Bengaluru over a derogatory social media post earlier this week.


Among those who were arrested include Kaleem Pasha, the husband of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) corporator from Nagwara ward - Irshad Begum.

Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy's nephew Naveen was arrested for allegedly sharing a 'derogatory' post on social media that triggered violence in the city on Tuesday night in which three persons died and around 60 police personnel sustained injuries.

Murthy's house was also vandalised by miscreants following the social media post. Residence of Congress MLA Akhanda Srinivasamurthy was also attacked after the violence broke out.

As per the report, the police have arrested 206 people so far in connection with the violence.

The arrested persons have been accused of arson, stone-pelting and assault on the police. 

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that a district magistrate will hold an inquiry into the violence.
Section 144 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) has been extended in areas under DJ Halli and KG Halli police station limits till 6 am on August 15.

Section 144, which prohibits the gathering of four or more people at a place, had been imposed in the entire city on Wednesday after violence broke out in some parts of the city.
