7 killed in fire at hotel being used as Covid-19 facility in Andhra’s Vijayawada

At least seven people were killed in a fire at a hotel, which is being used as a Covid-19 facility, in Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada early on Sunday, news agency ANI reported.

 

As per the report, the incident took place around 5am.

Fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the incident occurred. By 5.45 am fire was doused off.

The hotel is hired by a corporate hospital for treating COVID-19 patients.

As per the official report, around 30 COVID patients and 10 hospital staff, a total of 40 persons are there inside. Injured people have been shifted to other hospitals. Some of them are critical.

“The reason of fire that broke out at a hotel here on Sunday appears to be a short circuit as per the preliminary report”, said Krishna District Collector.

Andhra Pradesh’s chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock and grief over the accident and enquired about it cause.

 He also directed officials to take up the rescue measures and admit the injured in nearby hospitals.
