97 new COVID-19 cases reported in Andhra Pradesh, one dies

Returnees from Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Qatar constitute more than 50 percent of 97 new coronavirus cases reported in the state as of 9 am on May 26.

Andhra Pradesh has witnessed one more death and 97 fresh cases of coronavirus infection in the last 24 hours till 9 am on Tuesday.

The death was reported from East Godwari district. With this the death toll due the virus infection in the state has increased to 57.

More than half of the fresh cases are of returnees from foreign countries – 44 from Kuwait, 3 from Abu Dhabi, and 2 from Qatar. As many as 62 foreign returnees have been diagnosed with the pandemic in the last two days.

People evacuated from various countries began arriving in the state from May 9. With the 97 new cases, the COVID-19 tally in the state increased to 2,983 cases, according to the media bulletin issued by the State Command Control Room on Tuesday morning/

A total 8,148 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, and of them 48 tested positive. Among the 48 new cases, 4 of them, all from Chittoor, have a travel history of visiting Koyembedu wholesale market in Chennai, a New Indian Express report said.

The number of discharged in the last 24 hours was 55 and 70 more among the cases from other states were discharged after their recovery. All of the 70 were from Maharashtra.

The cumulative total of the discharged in the state now stands at 2,009 (1903 from Andhra Pradesh and 106 from other states).
