Amid national lockdown, HD Kumaraswamy to go ahead with son's marriage

Amid lockdown in the country due to COVID-19 outbreak, former Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy has decided to go ahead with his son's wedding which is scheduled to take place on April 17.


HD Kumaraswamy said that his son Nikhil's marriage ceremony will take place at bride Revati's residence in Bengaluru.

Kumaraswamy defends his move claiming that the particular area comes under the green zone.

However, the wedding preparations are also going on in his farmhouse , which is located at Kethaganahally, near Bidadi in Ramnagar.

Kumaraswamy has said the marriage will be simple and only his family members will attend and no one from outside would be invited.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday, the total number of coronavirus patients in the country has surged to 12,380. Meanwhile, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen to 414.

The total number of active cases in the country is 10,477. Meanwhile, 1489 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

The Central government has taken many stringent measures to prevent the further spread of the disease. 

Starting from March 24 midnight, India is under 21-day lockdown to curb the spread of novel coronavirus. Only the essential services like grocery shops, medical outlets remain functional during the lockdown.

The lockdown, effective March 25, is supposed to end on April 14. However, on Tuesday, in an address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the 21-day national lockdown has been extended till May 3.
