Andhra CM Jagan Mohan meets Jal Shakti Minister, urges release of funds for Polavaram project

Discussion was, reportedly, also held on other projects pertaining to Krishna river between the two leaders today.


Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy met Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Wednesday and reportedly requested for a faster disbursal of funds for the completion of Polavaram project.

As per the report, discussion was also held on other projects pertaining to Krishna river.

On September 15, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said that the Central government is working to release the funds related to Polavaram project to Andhra Pradesh at the earliest.

Responding to the issue during zero hour in Rajya Sabha, Sitharaman had said that a discussion is on with the State Finance Minister and she is also in touch with the Union Ministry for clearing the outstanding amount.

Earlier, a delegation of the YSRC MPs and officials from the State government, led by Water Resources Minister P Anil Kumar Yadav, had met  Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawa.

They submitted a memorandum, seeking the release of the pending funds and apprised him of the status of various irrigation projects in the State. 

Anil Kumar was accompanied by YSR Congress Members of Parliament (MPs) PV Midhun Reddy, G Madhav and Krishna Devarayalu.

Polavaram is a multipurpose project being built on river Godavari.
