Andhra Pradesh govt decides to double COVID-19 tests conducted per day

Andhra Pradesh government has decided to double the number of COVID-19 tests being carried out in the state, and to bring it up to 4,000 per day.


According to a release by the Andhra Pradesh CMO, as of now, more than 2,100 tests are being conducted on a daily basis in the state.

The decision to double the number of COVID-19 tests was revealed during a meeting held by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday. 

Reviewing the situation on Wednesday, Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has directed officials to augment the COVID-19 testing capacities.

According to the release, CM Reddy has instructed officials to conduct rapid testing "taking every Mandal as a unit" in the state.

"The Chief Minister sought details on the facilities being provided at quarantine centers and ordered the officials to provide Rs 2,000 financial assistance to the poor who are returning home from quarantine centers besides performing weekly tests," the release added. 

So far, Andhra Pradesh has confirmed 503 COVID-19 cases. While 475 patients are undergoing treatment in the hospitals, 16 have recovered and discharged. COVID-19 has claimed 11 lives till now.  

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Thursday, the total number of coronavirus patients in the country has surged to 12,380. Meanwhile, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen to 414.

The total number of active cases in the country is 10,477. Meanwhile, 1489 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.
