Andhra Pradesh registers record nearly 8,000 COVID-19 cases, 61 deaths in 24 hours

Three districts -- East Godavari, Guntur and Anantapur -- reported over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in the past one day

Andhra Pradesh registered the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases on Thursday with three districts reporting more than 1,000 positive cases in the past 24 hours.

According to the state COVID-19 nodal officer, the state reported 7,998 new COVID-19 positive cases and 61 deaths in the last 24 hours.

Total number of cases now reached 72,711 while the active cases are 34,272 and as many as 37,555 patients recovered.

The highest number of deaths were from East Godavari (14) followed by seven each in Guntur and Kurnool districts. The death toll in the state has reached 884, the officer said.

Three districts reported over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours. Accordingly, East Godavari has reported the maximum 1,391 positive cases followed by Guntur (1,184) and Ananthpur (1,016) districts.

No person coming from other states or foreign countries tested positive for the virus on Thursday.
