As many as 4 killed after lorry rear-ends vehicles, search underway for missing driver

The Toppur Police is investigating the accident and a search is underway for the driver of the vehicle, who is absconding.

 

At least four people were killed and several injured at the Dharmapuri Toppur Highway on Saturday after a lorry carrying cement bundles rammed into as many as 10 vehicles.

At around 4.00 pm, police and NHAI staff from Palayam were involved in the recovery of a truck, which broke down in the middle of the ghat road in Thoppur. 

The Toppur Police is investigating the accident and a search is underway for the driver of the vehicle, who is absconding.

As per the report, the lorry, headed to Salem from Andhra Pradesh, lost control and rear-ended the vehicles.

The accident led to severe traffic jam which disrupted movement for more than three hours.

Several people also suffered injuries and have been treated in the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital respectively.
