BJP condemns Pragya Thakur's remarks on Godse, sacks her from defence panel

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Thursday condemned the remarks made by its Lok Sabha MP Pragya Thakur in Parliament on Wednesday referring to Nathuram Godse and said it does not support such statements.

The BJP barred her from attending its parliamentary party meeting in the ongoing Parliament session and removed her from the consultative committee on defence.
BJP working president J P Nadda announced the disciplinary action against her and condemned the controversial Hindutva leader's remarks in a bid to defuse the political crisis triggered by her remarks in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Thakur created a controversy with her remark in the Lower House of Parliament during DMK member A Raja's narration of a statement by Nathuram Godse before a court on why he killed Mahatma Gandhi.
"The statement given by MP Pragya Thakur is condemnable. BJP never supports such statement and we do not support this ideology. We have decided that Thakur will not attend meetings of BJP parliamentary party during the session," J P Nadda said.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said in Lok Sabha that the BJP condemns any philosophy which describes Nathuram Godse as a patriot.
He also said that Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy was and remains relevant today and described him as a guide.
His comments came after Congress and other opposition members raked up remarks made by BJP MP Pragya Thakur in the House on Wednesday on Godse.
Opposition parties attacked the government and said Thakur's remarks were a "perfect representation" of the BJP' s "deplorable hate politics"
Calling BJP MP Pragya Thakur a ‘terrorist’, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that her remarks hailing Mahatma Gandhi's assassin Nathuram Godse in the Lok Sabha marked a sad day in the history of Parliament.
