BSNL extends prepaid connection validity for free till May 5

State-run telecom operator BSNL has extended the validity of pre-paid mobile numbers till May 5 in view of the extension of the lockdown period.

This would allow subscribers of BSNL pre-paid mobile numbers to receive incoming calls without recharge till the next fortnight. The decision followed after other operators like Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea extended the validity period.

"In view of hardships faced by the subscribers whose validity has expired during the lockdown period and are having almost zero balance, BSNL as a humane gesture, is extending the validity of all such subscribers up to May 5, 2020, free of cost, so that the subscribers continue to receive incoming calls," BSNL said in a release.

BSNL has also launched recharge helpline on a toll-free number for subscribers to get their recharge done. The facility is currently available in North and West zones and will be available from April 22, 2020, in south and east zones.

It has facilities such as 'Ghar Baithe Recharge' and 'Apno ki madad se recharge' for all subscribers, who are unable to recharge through digital platforms. This allows subscribers to register a request for recharge, wherein a BSNL executive will reach the subscriber and facilitate the required recharge for mobile numbers, the release added (with inputs from agencies).
