CBI takes over probe into death of violinist Balabhaskar

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday has taken over the probe and filed an FIR in the suspicious death of musician Balabhaskar after it received a reference from Kerala government in December 2019.


On June 12 this year, the Centre issued a notification for a CBI probe.

As per the report, the case has been registered under Sections 279, 337, 338 and 304A of IPC.

The CBI inquiry had been ordered based on a complaint from his father who had raised suspicion regarding his son's death.

Earlier, C K Unni, father of violinist Balabhaskar had submitted a petition to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and DGP Loknath Behera seeking a probe to reveal the mystery behind the accident and the suspicious death of his son Balabhaskar and his daughter Tejaswini Bala.

The car in which Balabhaskar and his family were travelling met with an accident on September 25, 2018, early morning at Pallippuram.

The accident occurred as the car crashed into the tree around 4.30 am, near the CRPF camp. The family was on the way back from Trissur where they had gone to visit a temple.

The injured were shifted to a private hospital in the city where Tejaswini was declared brought dead.

Balabhaskar, who suffered serious injuries, had been battling for life for seven days and died on October 2, his wife Lakshmi and their driver Arjun survived.

Balabhaskar was a well-known musician and violinist and is popular for his stage performance in and outside Kerala. He owns the music band called”Balaleela”. 

He began his career at the age of 12. He became the youngest music director in Malayalam films after he gave music for ‘Mangalya Pallak’ when he was only 17. 

He is well known for fusion music in the south. He has won Bismillah Khan Yuva Sangeetkaar Puraskaar in 2008 by Kendra Sangeet Natak Academy for Instrumental Music (Violin). He is based out of Thiruvananthapuram.

He had worked with Dr KJ Yesudas, Hariharan, Suresh Wadkar, KS Chitra, Sujatha, Sreenivas, Karthik and some other legendary singers
