Confirmed Coronavirus cases in India rises to 83

NEW DELHI: The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Saturday said that the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India rose to 83.

On Friday, the Union Health Ministry put the number of confirmed cases at 82. 

So far, two deaths due to the lethal infection have been reported in the country. It had prompted the authorities to closure of schools, colleges, and theatres.  Many public events, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), were also postponed.

On Friday, a 68-year-old woman, who had tested positive for coronavirus, died due to co-morbidity, diabetics and hypertension at a Delhi hospital.

On Thursday, India had reported its first death due to coronavirus. A 76-year-old man from the state of Karnataka had died. The man from Kalaburagi had recently returned from Saudi Arabia, and his sample has been confirmed for COVID19.

The coronavirus, originated in china’s Wuhan city in December last year, has spread to more than 100 countries, infecting more than 1,20,000 people
