Coronavirus cases in India rise to 324, says Health Ministry

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Sunday stated that the number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 324.

 

Out of these, 296 are active coronavirus cases, 23 are cured/discharged cases, four people have died and one case pertains to migration of COVID-19 patient.

The Prime Minister had on Thursday urged citizens to remain at their homes as a measure to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The 'Janata curfew', at the behest of Prime Minister Modi, is being observed around the country from 7 am till 9 pm today.

As per the media reports, roads were empty , public transport and markets closed in India as millions put themselves under a 14-hour long voluntary curfew to limit the fast-spreading coronavirus epidemic in the country

 “Let us all be a part of this curfew, which will add tremendous strength to the fight against the COVID-19 menace. The steps we take now will help in the times to come” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted minutes before the 'Janta Curfew' commenced. 

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 130 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic. 

COVID-19, which stands for Coronavirus Disease 2019, is the name of the disease caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2. SARS-CoV-2 belongs to the Coronavirus family with crown-shaped spikes on its surfaces. The name of the disease was given by the World Health Organisation.
