COVID-19: TN Agriculture Minister’s condition turns extremely critical

The minister complained of breathlessness and uneasiness while he was travelling by road to Salem from Chennai to offer homage to Chief Minister Edapadi K Palaniswamy’s mother.

The health condition of Tamil Nadu agriculture minister R Doraikkannu, who was being treated for Covid-19 and co-morbidities at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai, has turned “extremely critical” despite being on maximal life support, said a medical bulletin issued by the hospital on Saturday.

The bulletin issued by hospital executive director Dr Aravindan Selvaraj said the minister had suffered a significant deterioration in vital functions.

On October 25, the hospital said the minister, who was admitted to hospital on October 13, was on ECMO and ventilator support. He has multiple comorbidities. The CT scan showed the viral infection had invaded 90% of his lungs.

The 72-year-old minister was brought to Kauvery Hospital from Villupuram General Hospital in an advanced life support ambulance on October 13. When his convoy reached Vikravandi, he complained of chest pain and breathing problems and was admitted to Villupuram Government Medical College Hospital at Mundyambakkan. After initial treatment, was shifted to Kauveri Hospsital, where he was undergoing treatment since then.
