BANGALORE: Cops in Bangalore are in a dilemma with the family of a techie battling for life after trying to kill himself after opening fire on a 25-year-old woman in the city disowning him.

Amarendra Pattanaik, a native of Odisha, who is suspected to be the woman’s jilted lover, was found lying unconscious near Marathahalli bridge in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to Times of India, police identified him on the basis of a 17-page handwritten note in English with him. While the woman, Subhashree Priyadarshini, is out of danger now, Pattanaik is battling for life.

Police said Pattanaik’s family has so far refused to come down from Odisha to attend to him. “Both his younger brother and father said they had severed ties with him,” an officer was quoted by ToI as saying.

The police had initially thought that the man, who worked with a software firm in Hyderabad, was involved in an accident. After reading the 17-page note, the police found that he was the man who shot Priyadarshini. He had slit his throat and wrist. After he fell on the road, a vehicle knocked him down, the report said.

The two had met while they were working together in a firm in Hyderabad. While Priyadarshini moved to Bangalore and joined Nimhans as a software developer in 2018, Pattnaaik remained in Hyderabad. However, her colleagues said Pattanaik used to come to Bangalore often to meet her.

On Tuesday evening, Pattanaik opened fire on Priyadarshini outside her paying guest accommodation in Manjunath Layout, Munnekolala. Another PG occupant had rushed her to a hospital. Police had recovered a country-made pistol and a mobile phone from the spot.

The note he had on his body had talked about his relationship with Priyadarshini and how frustrated he was after Priyadarshini moved to Bangalore. It also explained how to deal with his movable and immovable properties after his death.

Reports said that while Priyadarshini was out of danger, the condition of her jilted lover is critical.
