GHMC polls: Telangana SEC stops distribution of flood relief in Hyderabad

The nomination process has begun for the 150 wards going to the polls with the returning officer issuing circle-wise notice

Telangana State Election Commission on Wednesday, November 18, stopped distribution of flood relief of Rs.10, 000 to the affected families in Hyderabad in view of the election for the GHMC to be held on December 1.

SEC secretary Ashok Kumar issued a letter to Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, asking him to put on hold both registration and distribution of relief to flood-affected families till declaration of the election results.

Following the issuance of GHMC election notification, the model code of Conduct came into force from Tuesday and will be in force till declaration of election results, he said.

Meanwhile, the nomination process for the 150 wards going to the polls. The returning officer has issued circle-wise notice to this effect. The nominations will be received till November 20 at all the GHMC offices under Greater Hyderabad limits.

Candidates can file nominations from 11 am to 3 pm. For the first time ever, filing of nominations through online has also been made. Candidates who submit a nomination online should download the application and submit it to the returning officer (RO).

The nominations will be scrutinized on November 21. Candidates can withdraw the nominations till 3 pm on November 22. A final list of the candidates will be announced on the same day.

According to the election schedule, the GHMC election will be held on December 1 and the results declared on December 4 by 3 pm. Around 2,700 polling booths will be set up for the elections out of which 1,004 are considered as problematic polling booths and 1,439 sensitive polling booths (with agency inputs)
