India’s COVID-19 tally reaches to 5,85,493; Death toll 17,400

With 18,653 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally reached 5,85,493 on Wednesday.


Meanwhile, with an increase of 507 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen 17,400.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 2,20,114. Meanwhile 3,47,979 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

As India is attempting to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus, some states are continuing to see a steady rise in cases.

Among the Indian states, Maharashtra remains to be the worst affected state by the deadly virus. It is followed by Tamil Nadu and Delhi.

According to the ministry, Maharashtra is the worst-affected state by the virus with 1,74,761 cases including 7,855 fatalities.

Tamil Nadu is the second worst-hit state with 90,167 cases including 1,201 deaths. Meanwhile, Delhi has a total of 87,360 cases.

The Indian Council of Medical Research said that a total number of 86,26,585 tested up to June 30 of which 2,17,931 samples were tested on Tuesday.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.
