India records highest single day spike with 16,922 new COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 4.73 lakh

With 16,922 new cases in the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases in a single day, India's COVID-19 tally reached 4,73,105 on Thursday.

 

Meanwhile, with an increase of 418 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen 14,894.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 1,86,514. Meanwhile 2,71,697 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

As India is attempting to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus, some states are continuing to see a steady rise in cases.

With 1,42,900 confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state in the country, followed by Delhi (70,390) and  Tamil Nadu (67,648).

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.
