India records highest single day spike with 20,903 new COVID-19 cases; tally crosses 6.25 lakh

With 20,903 new cases in the last 24 hours, the highest number of cases in a single day, India's COVID-19 tally reached 6,25,544 on Friday.


Meanwhile, with an increase of 379 deaths in the last 24 hours, the number of deaths in the country due to COVID-19 has risen 18,213.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 2,27,439. Meanwhile 3,79,892 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

As India is attempting to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus, some states are continuing to see a steady rise in cases.

With 1,86,626 confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state in the country, while the number of fatalities reached 8,178.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.
