India reports spike of 48,916 COVID-19 cases, total tally reaches 13,36,861

With 48,916 COVID-19 cases, India's coronavirus count crossed 13.36 lakh mark on Saturday.

 

With 48,916 new cases in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 tally reached 13,36,861.

Meanwhile, 757  patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the fatalities count to 31,358.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 4,56,071. Meanwhile,  8,49,431persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

As India is attempting to flatten the curve of the novel coronavirus, some states are continuing to see a steady rise in cases.

Maharashtra has reported 3,57,117 coronavirus cases, the highest among states and Union Territories in the country.

A total of 1,99,749 cases have been reported from Tamil Nadu till now, while Delhi has recorded a total of 1,28,389 coronavirus cases.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 4,20,898 samples were tested for coronavirus on Friday and overall 1,58,49,068 samples have been tested so far.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.
