India's COVID-19 tally crosses 56-lakh mark; Death toll at 90,020

With an increase of 83,347 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 56 lakhs mark.

 

In the past 24 hours, India has recorded 83,347 coronavirus cases, taking its total count to 56,46,011.

Meanwhile 1,085 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to  90,020.

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 9,68,377. Meanwhile 45,87,614 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected State in the country with 2,72,809 active cases and 9,36,554 cured and discharged patients. The toll due to the disease stands at 33,407.

Karnataka is the second-most affected by the disease currently with 93,172 active cases in the State. Over four lakh thirty thousand people have been cured and discharged in the State apart from 8,228 deaths owing to the disease.

Andhra Pradesh with 71,465 active and 5,62,376 cured patients is also severely affected. 5,461 people have lost their lives due to the disease so far in the state.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India has overtaken Brazil and became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
