India's COVID-19 tally crosses 77-lakh mark; Death toll at 1,16,616

With an increase of 55,838 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus count in India has crossed 77- lakhs mark. 

 

In the past 24 hours, India has 55,838 coronavirus cases, taking its total count 77,06,946.

Meanwhile, 702 patients succumbed to the deadly contagious disease, taking the fatalities count to 1,16,616.. 

According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of active cases in the country is 7,15,812. Meanwhile 68,74,518 persons have been cured/discharged/migrated.

With 1,59,346 total active cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state by COVID-19 in the country. While 14,15,679 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 42,633 have died so far.

Among other severely affected states, Karnataka has 1,00,459 active cases, while 6,71,618 people have recovered, 10,696 have succumbed to the coronavirus.

Coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan city in December last year, has so far spread to more than 200 countries. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared coronavirus a pandemic.

India became the second worst-affected country by the coronavirus pandemic in the world. The United States is the worst-affected country across the globe.
