Chasing a target of 163 in the allotted 20 overs, CSK reached the target comfortably with four balls to spare

Half centuries by Amabati Rayudu (71) and Faf du Plessis (58) helped Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets in the opening match of the IPL 2020 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday evening.

Chasing a target of 163 in the allotted 20 overs, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) reached the target with four balls to spare.

Faf du Plessis finished the innings with two fours in the first two balls of the final over.

Rayudu brilliant knock of 71 off 48 balls with strong support of du Plessis helped CSK recover from the initial shock of losing two early wickets in the form of Shane Watson (4) and Murali Vijay (1). This was his 19th IPL fifty.

Earlier, CSK won the toss and invited MI to bat first in a stadium without spectators.

Riding on Saurabh Tiwary (42) and Quinton de Kock's (33) knocks, Mumbai Indians posted a decent total of 162/9 against Chennai Super Kings in the opening match.

Rohit Sharma (12) and Quinton de Kock got MI off to a flying start before it was new recruit Piyush Chawla who got the first wicket in the 5th over.

Sam Curran struck soon after to give CSK two quick wickets. Then Suryakumar Yadav (17) and Saurabh Tiwary (42) then built a partnership.

For the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Lungi Ngidi claimed three wickets for 38 while Deepak Chahar and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each.

CSK's pacer did a fantastic job in the death overs as they restricted Mumbai Indians to 162/9.
