BANGALORE: In a bizarre incident, a 25-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his residence in Chikkaballapura district after his girlfriend failed to wish him on his birthday.

According to Times of India, M Shivakumar, fell in love with a woman, who was his neighbour, when he lived in Yeahanka in Bangalore between 2017 and 2019. Shivakumar, who owned a cab, wanted to marry her and both families had given their consent.

However, differences grew when Shivakumar decided to return to his village to take care of his widowed mother, who was suffering from multiple diseases. His younger brother, a daily wage worker, was living in Chikkaballapura and he requested Shivakumar to return home to take care of their mother. Shivakumar had told his girlfriend that he was earning well in Chikkaballapura and they could marry.

However, the woman wasn’t keen on continuing the relationship, the TOI reported quoting police sources. But Shivakumar was hopeful. On February 26, the day he turned 25, he was confident that she’d call him. But she did not. After dinner, he locked himself in the room and hanged himself. In his suicide note, written in Kannada, Shivakumar said no one, especially the girl, is responsible for his death,” police said.
