Karnataka Home Minister tests positive for COVID-19

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka now has 98,555 active cases of COVID-19.


Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has tested positive for COVID-19, the minister himself informed on Wednesday.

Bommai in the tweet said he is asymptomatic and confined himself in home isolation.

"A staff at our residence tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. Subsequently, a COVID-19 test was also conducted on me and the results came back positive. I'm healthy and do not have any symptoms. I've chosen to isolate myself at home," the minister tweeted in Kannada.

"I request all those who came in contact with me during the past few days to get tested immediately and take appropriate precautions," he added.

Earlier, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Shivakumar, many other political leaders had tested COVID-19 positive.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Karnataka now has 98,555 active cases of COVID-19.

The total number of cured, discharged and migrated cases in the state are 369,229. The death toll in the state is 7,481.
