Kerala Finance Minister Thomas Isaac tested positive for COVID-19 and became the first minister in the state to be infected by the deadly virus.

Isaac tested positive for the pandemic during an antigen test that was conducted on Sunday evening.

He has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and health condition is said to be satisfactory. However, how he contracted the disease is not known.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Health Minister KK Shailaja may go in self-quarantine as the finance minister had reportedly attended the party’s state secretariat meeting on Friday. CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has already in home quarantine, reported Mathrubhumi.

The office staff of Isaac tested negative, those who came in direct contact with him will be in quarantine.

His office will be closed on Monday for disinfection activities as the minister was in the office on Sunday.

Last month, Vijayan and several key members of his Cabinet had gone into self-quarantine after they visited the flight crash site at Karippur. Subsewuently, he had skipped the Independence Day parade in Thiruvuvananthapuram.
