The Kerala gold smuggling case's prime accused Swapna Suresh was shifted to the ICU at Government Medical College (GMC), Thrissur on Tuesday.

Swapna, who was lodged at Central Prison, Viyyur in Thrissur district had complained of chest pain on late Monday, following which she was shifted to GMC.

As per the report from the GMC authorities, a slight variation has been noticed in the ECG report of Swapna, however, her condition is satisfactory.

On September 3, the Kerala Police recorded the arrest of Swapna, in connection with a case related to the forgery of a fake degree certificate to secure a job in the Kerala State Information Technology Infrastructure Limited (KSITIL) under the Income Tax Department.

The case was registered under IPC sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document). Suresh is facing allegations of submitting a fake B.Com degree certificate of Maharashtra-based Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar University for getting an appointment in the Space Park under the I-T department.

Her employment was terminated by the government after her name cropped up in connection with the bid to smuggle over 30 kg of gold using a diplomatic baggage through the international airport last month.

Last week, a special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court in Kochi had extended the judicial custody of three key accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case -- Swapna Suresh, Sarith PS, and Sandeep Nair, till September 9.

The matter, which pertains to the smuggling of gold in the state through diplomatic channels, had come to light after 30 kg gold worth Rs 14.82 crores, smuggled in a consignment camouflaged as diplomatic baggage, was busted by the Customs in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5.

Sarith Kumar, an accused in the case, who had previously worked as a public relations officer (PRO) in UAE Consulate-General's office in Thiruvananthapuram, was arrested on Julu 6. The involvement of Swapna Suresh in the case came to light when the customs department questioned Sarith.

Swapna went into hiding on July 5 after a diplomatic baggage addressed to the UAE Consulate was seized by customs officials.

Later, two key accused, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair, were taken into custody by the NIA from Bengaluru on July 11.
