Kerala minister's wife defies quarantine norms; Opens bank locker after son's pictures with Swapna emerge

The central investigation agency is examining the locker dealings of Kerala Minister for Industries and Sports E P Jayarajan’s wife Indira, who reached the Kerala Bank Kannur branch after violating COVID-19 guidelines.


According to the COVID protocol, a person has to remain in quarantine till the test results come.

Earlier, the central agency had started an investigation on the pictures of minister’s son with Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case.  

As per the report, she reached the bank and opened the locker soon after this. 

On September 10 afternoon, she went to the bank after submitting a sample for COVID tests. Following confirmation of the virus, she was shifted to the hospital soon after returning from the bank.

According to the On Manorama news report, after she went to the bank with a bag and completed her locker transaction, she got one-sovereign gold necklace that she had in her hands weighed. She also did some transactions in connection with fixed deposits.

Subsequently, three bank employees had to go into quarantine.The employee who handles fixed deposits and the manager who went with Indira to open the locker, he gold appraiser are also now in quarantine.

The urgency shown by Indira in doing the locker transaction by breaking the COVID protocol, an offence for which the police can register a case..

Central investigation agencies have obtained information that Indira's son is among those who allegedly shared the Rs 4 crore believed to have been paid as commission for a Life Mission project. 

The pictures the agencies have obtained show he had a close friendship with Swapna Suresh, one of the main accused in the gold smuggling case.

Investigators believe he played a key role in the change of hands of the Rs 4 crore paid as commission in the Life Mission deal.  The agencies will summon him for questioning to obtain more evidence of his dealings with Swapna.

Kerala's Minister for Industries and Sports EP Jayarajan and his wife was tested positive for the COVID-19 on Friday.

He was under observation at his home in Kannur, and four of the minister's staff have been quarantined.

Earlier, Finance Minsiter Thomas Isaac had tested COVID positive on September 6. Subsequently, all those who had been in contact with the Minister were isolated.
