Kerala records 2,885 new COVID-19 cases, 15 deaths in last 24 hrs

The cumulative case burden of the State now stands at 1,05,139. Having reported 75,848 recoveries till date


Kerala reported 2,885 new cases of COVID-19 and 1,944 recoveries on Saturday, said Health Minister KK Shailaja.

Of those diagnosed on Saturday, 2,640 were cases of local transmission and the source of infection of 287 was not traceable. 42 are returnees from abroad and 137 from other states. 55 healthcare workers were also infected by Coronavirus.

On Saturday, 15 death were confirmed due to COVID-19. The State’s COVID toll reached 425. Six of these deaths were reported from Thiruvananthapuram, three from Kozhikode, two each from Thrissur and Palakkad and one each from Malappuram and Ernakulam.

Thiruvananthapuram continues to report the maximum number of cases in the State, reporting 566 new cases on Saturday.

The district-wise figures for those who tested positive yesterday are: 

Thiruvananthapuram 566, Malappuram 310, Kozhikode 286, Kollam 265, Kannur 207, Ernakulam 188, Palakkad 184, Thrissur 172, Kottayam 166, Alappuzha 163, Kasargod 150, Pathanamthitta 88, Idukki 86 and Wayanad 54.

Till now, 75,848 people have been cured of COVID in the State. Meanwhile, the number of COVID-19 patients currently undergoing treatment in hospitals across the State now is 28,802.

The cumulative case burden of the State now stands at 1,05,139. Meanwhile, 75,848 recoveries have been reported till date.

A total of 2,03,300 persons are under observation in various districts of the state, 1,81,123 under home or institutional quarantine and 22,177 in hospitals. 

The samples tested in the last 24 hours is 43,954. So far, a total of 20,99,549 samples have been sent for testing.

Nineteen new places were demarcated as hotspots today while 10 were exempted. There are 603 hotspots in Kerala now.
