Kerala reports highest single-day spike in cases with 42 people testing positive

Kerala has been witnessing a steady increase in coronavirus cases ever since people from the state started arriving from various parts of India and abroad 

Kerala on Friday reported the highest single-day spike in coronavirus cases with 42 people testing positive for the virus. With this the total number of positive cases in the state has reached 732.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan told reporters that barring one all those tested positive on Friday had come from outside the state. Of this, 21 came from Maharashtra.

Maximum number of 12 cases have been reported from the northern district of Kannur. Kasargod reported seven, Kozhikode and Palakkad five each, Thrissur and Malappuram four each, Kottayam two and Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Wayanad one each.

The person, who tested positive in Kozhikode, is a health worker. The chief minister said that the government has so far tested 51, 310 samples. As many as 84258 people are under observation either at home or in hospitals.

A total of 162 people have been admitted to various hospitals across the state on Friday. At present, the state has 216 active cases.
