Kotak Mahindra Dismisses Staff over Derogatory Comments on Gang Rape Victim

South India

KOCHI : Vishnu Nandakumar from Kerala was dismissed from his position of Assistant Manager at Kotak Mahindra after he posted derogatory comments in Facebook about Kathua gang rape victim.

The man who is a resident of Kochi commented that the victim’s death was much deserved as she would have grown up and posed a threat to the country. Screenshots of the comment went viral within no time and thousands of people reacted against the inhuman comment made by the man. On learning that the man was employed by Kotak Mahindra, netizens took out their fury on the bank’s Facebook page bringing down their rating from 4.5 to 1.5 in no time. The bank received hundreds of calls demanding that the insensitive employ be dismissed from service with immediate effect.

The man who was employed at the Palarivattom (Kochi) branch of the bank was dismissed from service and the bank responded online that Mr. Nandakumar was dismissed from service for failing to perform satisfactorily. However the fact remains that Mr. Vishnu is just one among many BJP supporters who justified the brutal rape and murder of an eight year old girl saying that it was not the first time something similar has happened in India. BJP’s sitting MLA and cabinet minister Lal Singh callously commented that “many girls die every day”.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court reprimanded the Jammu and Kathua bar associations for trying to prevent the victim’s family from seeking justice. There were reports earlier that the family members and their lawyer Deepika Singh were threatened by the bar associations. They also tried to stop Ramesh Kumar Jalla, the police officer in charge of the case from entering the chief judicial magistrate court to submit the chargesheet. Along with the Hindu Ekta Manch the bar associations tried to communalize the issue by claiming that the charges were religiously motivated. Interestingly both Ramesh Jalla and Deepika Singh belong to Kashmiri Pandit families.

The Times of India reported yesterday that the crime was intended to terrorize the nomadic Muslim community of Bakarwals to which the eight year old belonged. The ghastly event took place in a temple in Kathua over eight days during the course of which the girl was drugged, starved, gang raped multiple times before being strangulated to death. Although the events which began on January 10 shocked the entire country, the Prime Minister is yet to make any comment on the incidents.
