Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar doing 'much better' now


MUMBAI: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, who is still in the Intensive Care Unit of a hospital, is doing "much better", her family said on Thursday.

The 90-year-old Mangeshkar was admitted to the Breach Candy Hospital on November 11, Monday.
She was rushed to hospital around 1.30 am after she complained of breathlessness. Later, she was shifted to the ICU and had to be put on life-support.
"Lata ji is doing much better now. Beyond this, we can't comment. Please respect our privacy," News Agency PTI quoted Mangeshkar's niece Rachana Shah as saying.
Meantime, the hospital sources refused to comment on the status of the veteran singer's health.
Lata Mangeshkar is one of the best-known and most respected playback singers in India. She has lent her voice for thousands of songs in Hindi and has sung songs in over thirty-six regional Indian languages and foreign languages, though primarily in Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award was bestowed on her in 1989 by the Government of India and was awarded the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in 2001. France conferred on her its highest civilian award (Officer of the Legion of Honour) in 2007.
She is the recipient of three National Film Awards, 15 Bengal Film Journalists' Association Awards, four Filmfare Best Female Playback Awards, two Filmfare Special Awards, Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and many more.
