Liquor shops allowed to remain open till 9.30 pm in Telangana

The Telangana government had allowed liquor shops in the state to remain open till 9.30 pm.

State excise minister V Srinivas Goud on Thursday said that the decision was take on the basis of the new rules introduced by the government on the functioning of shops and business establishments in the country.

The 2,182 wine shops, which downed shutters in the wake of the nation-wide lock down from March 25, were allowed to open until 6 pm on May 6. The timing was extended till 8 pm from June 2.

"All wine shops can now be open till 9.30 pm. However, bars and pubs will continue to remain closed until further orders," the minister said.

He has warn stern action against those involved in illicit brewing in the state. The minister said that action will be taken against them under Preventive Detention Act. He pointed out that Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao-led government has transformed the state into a country liquor-free state.

He appealed to the people to inform the authorities about illicit brewing illegal transport of liquor. The person's identity will be kept confidential and appropriate gratuity will be given to them, the minister assured (with inputs from agencies)
