Mahindra to ramp up All-New Thar’s production by 3,500 units per month after high demand for SUV

The All-New Thar 2020 was launched on October 2 at Rs 9.80 lakh giving an end to the prolonged wait to the SUV lovers

After Mahindra’s All-New Thar crossed 9,000 bookings in just four days since its launch on October 2, the domestic auto major is reportedly planning to ramp up production of the SUV keeping in view the high demand.

Mahindra may increase the production of the all new Thar SUV by 3,500 units per month, reported Manorama citing Veejay Nakra, Chief Executive Officer, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra.

He said that as per the initial plan was to produce 2,500 Thar per month but the company decided to hike the production to 3,500 in the wake of the high demand for the SUV.

The All-New Thar becomes the only SUV in the 4X4 lifestyle category to record this booking milestone in such a short span of time.

In addition to the traditional lovers of this iconic brand, the All-New Thar has also appealed to a whole new set of urban lifestyle-seekers, who have shown significant interest in the convertible top and automatic transmission top end variants.

Commenting on the booking milestone, Nakra had said a couple of days ago said that the auto firm was extremely happy with the overwhelming response and excitement that the All-New Thar has created.

“What is also encouraging is that the All-New Thar has resonated well with lifestyle seekers, families & women buyers, thereby opening-up an entirely new set of customers for this iconic lifestyle 4X4 SUV. Despite test drives being available in just 18 cities to begin with, we have received over 9,000 bookings for the All-New Thar, since its launch, which is unprecedented for this segment,” he said.

The All-New Thar 2020 model was launched in two variants -- AX and LX and are available in petrol and diesel fuel options.

The prices for the Mahindra Thar petrol AX variants are priced at Rs 9.8 lakh, Rs 10.65 lakh and Rs 11.9 lakh. The Thar diesel AX variants are priced between Rs 10.85 lakh and Rs 12.2 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom, all India, the company said.

The petrol LX version with manual transmission is priced at Rs 12.49 lakh and the diesel trims are tagged at Rs 12.85 lakh and Rs 12.95 lakh.

The petrol versions of the Thar with automatic transmission are priced at Rs 13.45 lakh and Rs 13.55 lakh, while the two six-speed automatic diesel variants are tagged at Rs 13.65 lakh and Rs 13.75 lakh.

The Mahindra SUV features BS-VI compliant petrol and diesel engines. Thar petrol variants have come with a 2-litre powertrain that generates 150 bhp of power, while the 2.2-litre diesel variants churn out 130 BHP of power.
