KOCHI: A 36 year old native of Payyannur in Kannur district, who was admitted to Ernakulam Government Medical College with suspected symptoms of coronavirus has died on Saturday.

The man, who was working in Malaysia for more than two years, was shifted to the medical college on his arrival at the Kochi International Airport as he was having pneumonia, breathing difficulty and other complications.

Since his condition was critical the patient was shifted to ventilator support. His swab samples have been sent to National Institute of Virology for H1N1 and Covid 19 tests. His first test result was negative. The doctors are awaiting the result of the second test by this afternoon.

If the test returns positive, this will be first coronavirus death in Kerala. Three people, who arrived from China last month, were found positive and cured.

Ernakulam District collector S Suhas convened an emergency meeting of health officials in the wake of the suspected virus case.
